Aetna Coverage Availability & Fees

Aetna offers a variety of dental insurance plans, so you should take some time to familiarize yourself with the details of your policy. In the meantime, here is an overview of the benefits that are common among many Aetna PPO plans:

  • Preventive care: Up to 100% covered. For kids, this category typically includes cleanings, exams, routine X-rays, sealants, and fluoride applications.
  • Basic services: Up to 80% covered. Basic services usually encompass fillings, simple extractions, and emergency pain relief.
  • Major services: Up to 50% covered. This category often includes crowns and some types of oral surgery.

Your plan may enforce a deductible, a waiting period before you are eligible for certain types of coverage, and an annual maximum. (An annual maximum is a yearly limit on how much Aetna will pay for approved services). Because our practice is in-network with Aetna, we have a contract that controls prices. You are likely to find lower out-of-pocket fees when you visit us (as opposed to an out-of-network practice).

Also, keep in mind that if your child ever needs a major procedure, we might be able to perform it across multiple appointments between calendar years. This may allow you to utilize two annual maximums instead of only one.
